The book Polish-Moldavian Political-Military Relations in the Years 1538-1595 is the result of many years of the author’s research on Polish-Moldovan relations. The author presents them against the broader background of European politics, in which the main actors – apart from Poland and Moldavia – were the Habsburgs, the Ottoman Empire, the Tatars and the Cossacks gaining independence. The narrative focuses on the struggle for influence in Moldova between Poland and the Ottomans in the period from the practical loss of independence by Moldova in 1538 (the invasion of Suleiman the Magnificent) to its introduction into the Polish sphere of influence in 1595 (the expedition of Jan Zamoyski). The observed panorama of events consists of numerous Polish, Turkish and Cossack interventions and attempts to maintain autonomy by Moldavian hospodars.
