Postgraduate studies: Genealogy. Theory and practice

The studies are addressed mainly to people who professionally deal with broadly understood genealogical research, i.e. employees of companies, organizations and societies dealing with the commercial provision of genealogical services, but also to employees of cultural institutions,museums, memory chambers and libraries, members and animators of regional organizations and associations, historians and enthusiasts who most often study small local communities with reverence. The studies are prepared for those who are looking for interesting opportunities to develop and improve their skills used in genealogical and regional research.

Purpose of the studies: The main goal of the proposed postgraduate studies is to enable the deepening of knowledge and the improvement of the genealogist’s workshop both for people with a historical education and enthusiasts of genealogy and regional studies who have not completed historical studies and want to deal with genealogy on a professional or amateur basis. The studies are primarily practical in nature to enable the acquisition or deepening of knowledge and skills related to genealogy, regional studies and social history. They are also intended to familiarize students with the methodology and methodology of conducting independent research and research, including the preparation of various genealogical works.

Qualifications: A graduate of the studies completes or gains knowledge and gains skills and competences, in particular in the field of: independent and professional preparation of genealogical arguments, monographs and monographic outlines of specific figures, families and families, biographies and biographies, studies, analytical works; knowledge of terminology, basic literature and the most important sources, methodology and methods of conducting research and genealogical searches, the latest achievements of genealogy and some other auxiliary sciences of history; independently reaching and recognizing key sources of genealogical knowledge, including written records stored in both secular and church archives and library collections, together with the ability to critically analyze these records; knowledge of the social history of Poland from the Middle Ages to the 20th century, including the most important trends and phenomena, processes and transformations; the use of modern technologies in historical and genealogical research; popularizing historical knowledge, including local or regional tradition, using more attractive forms of communication; the ability to initiate and conduct research and historical and genealogical research as a way leading to a better understanding of the past and local heritage.

Qualification rules

Candidates for postgraduate studies must hold a diploma of completion of bachelor’s or master’s studies in all fields and are admitted to studies in the recruitment procedure established by the Faculty of Historical Sciences (UKSW).

The amount of tuition fees

Fee for one semester: PLN 1,750.00 (two semesters: PLN 3,500.00)
